When it comes to filmmaking, crafting a compelling narrative seems like an obvious requirement. However, it’s surprising how frequently this aspect is neglected.

Humans have been sharing stories around campfires for millennia. We are inherently drawn to engaging narratives and form connections through these stories.

Before picking up a camera, my approach involves collaborating with you to discover and craft a story worth telling.

  • There are great stories all around us waiting to be told. But what makes a story great, and how do we know if our story is worth telling?

    I often come back to a quote by Kenneth Burke, who said, "Stories are equipment for living."

    This quote reminds us that a good story must be designed to put our audience first. We must tell stories that enable our audience to embark on a journey of change and experience something new for themselves.

  • Fictional stories can be extremely powerful, but there is something in the authenticity of a person's real-life experiences that lends to telling stories that have greater resonance.

  • The art of cinematography involves much more than simply pressing the record button on a large camera. The selection of focal lengths, camera positioning, frame composition, scene lighting, art direction, editing, and colour all contribute to the feel of a finished film.

    Native Origin possesses a broad range of in-house camera and filmmaking equipment. This enables us to capture beautifully cinematic imagery with Netflix-level cinema cameras and vintage Carl Zeiss lenses. With this technology, we can paint scenes with beautifully soft light, obtain a bird’s eye view of a scene from a high-end drone, and capture immersive audio with a collection of high-fidelity microphones.

  • Every Native Origin project begins by zooming out to understand the wider context of where your business is and what it hopes to achieve.     Though the creation of social media content and photography may be linked to a long-form filmmaking project, they are separate projects in their own right and require unique approaches, formats, and outputs.

    At Native Origin, I am equipped to produce a broad range of digital assets for your business. However, we will treat each format as an individual project with a distinctive process. I also offer a monthly retainer service to deliver regular social media content for your business.
